Welcome to Villa Familia! Our palatial Mediterranean-style three-story villa is perched on two acres of private property overlooking the rolling breakers of Backwash Bay in stunning Cape Matapalo on the southern tip of the Osa Peninsula. Just thirty minutes south of the peninsular capital of Puerto Jimenez, Cape Matapalo boasts tropical rain forests that sweep from the pensinsular highlands down to the rocky crags and sandy coves that comprise the Golfo Dulce shorelines. With three world-class surfing breaks, Pan Dulce, Backwash, and Matapalo, the region is well known for its waves and surf. Blue water is typically only 5 km offshore and is the world’s most active sailfish fishery. Beyond the sand, surf, and sea, an extensive network of trails extend into the forest and enable self-guiding (or fully guided) tours through primary forests populated by four species of monkeys, coatimundis, anteaters, sloths, pumas, toucans, macaws, and many other animals. Matapalo activities include nearby extreme sports, like tree-climbing and waterfall rappelling, as well as guided hikes and bird-watching, horseback tours, and surfing lessons. A short drive away, the full range of activities grows to include sport fishing, canopy tours, mangrove kayak tours, gulf motorboat tours and many points of interest. Villa Familia is fully outfitted with linens and kitchenware. It boasts a six-burner stove, propane refrigeration, and a full 110V solar system. The home is equipped with wireless broadband Internet, so feel free to bring your laptop. There is a large groomed lawn and ornamental plants and privacy hedges. The home is fully supported by caretakers that live next door and can provide supplemental services including laundry, housekeeping, meal-catering, and other services for modest additional fees. Nearby lodges will accept diners with advance reservations, and there is an open-air restaurant and bar two kilometers away that features a farmer’s market on Fridays and a casual open-air environment for dining and night life. A rental car is recommended to provide our guest with the fullest versatility in activities options and to make it easy to jump into town for supplies. However, there is twice-daily public transportation to and from Jimenez, and taxis from town are also available. Our town office is open sixteen hours a day every day of the year and provides a full range of support services and can arrange activities, rental cars, travel, taxis, either in advance or once you are at the home. We welcome you to your family villa on the tropical shores of the Golfo Dulce and look forward to the opportunity to share our little slice of paradise with you. Daily and weekly rates based on occupancy, taxes included. $35 cleaning fee for stays of <4 days
